About Alvect Suspension
Alvect Suspension combines Albendazole 200 mg with Ivermectin 1.5 mg per 10 ml in a child-friendly oral liquid. Albendazole is a benzimidazole that disrupts microtubule polymerisation in helminths, blocking glucose uptake and depleting parasite energy stores. Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone that opens glutamate-gated chloride channels in nematode and ectoparasite muscle cells, causing paralysis and death. The combination covers a wider parasite spectrum than either agent alone.

Mechanism of Action
Albendazole binds beta-tubulin of helminth cells, preventing microtubule polymerisation; this blocks glucose uptake and ATP synthesis, leading to parasite death. Ivermectin selectively binds glutamate-gated chloride channels in nematode and arthropod nervous systems, causing increased chloride permeability, hyperpolarisation, paralysis and death. Mammalian cells lack these channels, conferring selectivity.
Dosage & Administration
Children > 2 years: 10 ml as a single oral dose; may repeat after 2 weeks for threadworm. Adolescents and adults: as directed by physician. Take with food. Shake the bottle well before each use.
Side Effects
Mild abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness. Rare: skin rash, transient hepatic enzyme elevation, leucopenia with prolonged albendazole use. Mazzotti reaction in onchocerciasis (not common with single-dose use).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to albendazole, ivermectin or any benzimidazole. Pregnancy (first trimester). Children under 2 years unless prescribed. Caution in hepatic impairment and concurrent CNS infections (Loa loa).
