About Alvect Suspension

Alvect Suspension combines Albendazole 200 mg with Ivermectin 1.5 mg per 10 ml in a child-friendly oral liquid. The combination provides broad-spectrum activity against the major intestinal and tissue parasites encountered in Indian paediatric practice — roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, threadworm, strongyloides, scabies and certain filarial infections.

Albendazole is a benzimidazole that disrupts microtubule polymerisation in helminths, blocking glucose uptake and depleting parasite energy stores. Ivermectin is a macrocyclic lactone that opens glutamate-gated chloride channels in nematode and ectoparasite muscle cells, causing paralysis and death. The combination covers a wider parasite spectrum than either agent alone.

Alvect Suspension is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions in paediatric-grade formulations. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-volume paediatric antibiotic SKU.

Indications

  • Mixed intestinal helminthiasis — roundworm, hookworm, whipworm
  • Threadworm (Enterobius vermicularis) infection
  • Strongyloidiasis
  • Cutaneous larva migrans
  • Scabies (off-label, adjunct)
  • Mass deworming in school-age children

Mechanism of Action

Albendazole binds beta-tubulin of helminth cells, preventing microtubule polymerisation; this blocks glucose uptake and ATP synthesis, leading to parasite death. Ivermectin selectively binds glutamate-gated chloride channels in nematode and arthropod nervous systems, causing increased chloride permeability, hyperpolarisation, paralysis and death. Mammalian cells lack these channels, conferring selectivity.

Dosage & Administration

Children > 2 years: 10 ml as a single oral dose; may repeat after 2 weeks for threadworm. Adolescents and adults: as directed by physician. Take with food. Shake the bottle well before each use.
