About Cefiza-O LB Tablet
Cefiza-O LB Tablet combines Cefixime 200 mg, Ofloxacin 200 mg and Lactic Acid Bacillus in a single tablet — providing broad antibacterial coverage plus simultaneous probiotic protection against antibiotic-associated diarrhoea. The combination is particularly used in complicated UTI, severe diarrhoea and mixed-flora infections in adults.
The Lactobacillus addition is especially valuable here because both cefixime and ofloxacin individually carry significant AAD risk; the probiotic provides important gut microbiome protection.
Cefiza-O LB is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — a high-margin specialty SKU.
Indications
- Acute pharyngitis and tonsillitis (streptococcal)
- Acute otitis media
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated UTI and cystitis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (single dose)
- Typhoid fever (uncomplicated)
- Complicated UTI with mixed flora
- Severe traveller's diarrhoea
- Patients with prior antibiotic-associated diarrhoea
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins. Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase. Lactobacillus suppresses pathogenic gut flora.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet twice daily for 5–10 days.
Side Effects
Reduced AAD vs combination without probiotic. Other side effects similar to Cefiza-O.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy (cross-reactivity ~10%). Renal impairment requires dose adjustment. History of GI disease (caution). Fluoroquinolone hypersensitivity. Severe immunosuppression (probiotic caution).
Storage
Store below 30 °C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture.
