About Cefiza-O Tablet
Cefiza-O Tablet combines Cefixime 200 mg with Ofloxacin 200 mg for broad empirical coverage of mixed gram-positive, gram-negative and atypical bacterial pathogens. Particularly used for complicated UTIs, severe gastroenteritis, mixed-flora abdominal infections and respiratory tract infections where mono-therapy may be insufficient.
Ofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone with strong gram-negative activity and useful atypical pathogen coverage (Chlamydia, Mycoplasma). The combination broadens cefixime’s spectrum particularly in gut and genitourinary infections.
Cefiza-O is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Complicated UTI and pyelonephritis
- Mixed-flora gastrointestinal infections
- Severe traveller's diarrhoea
- Mixed-flora respiratory tract infections
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (adjunct)
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins. Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, blocking DNA replication and producing rapid bactericidal action against gram-negative organisms and atypicals.
