About Ceftru-O Tablet
Ceftru-O Tablet combines Cefpodoxime 200 mg with Ofloxacin 200 mg — providing broad empirical coverage spanning gram-positive, gram-negative and atypical pathogens. Used for complicated UTIs, severe gastroenteritis, mixed-flora abdominal infections and respiratory tract infections requiring dual-mechanism antibiotic coverage.
The combination is reserved for situations where mono-therapy is judged insufficient — typically after culture data or in severe community-acquired infections in regions with high resistance rates.
Ceftru-O is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.
Indications
- Complicated UTI and pyelonephritis
- Severe gastroenteritis with bacterial cause
- Mixed-flora intra-abdominal infections
- Severe respiratory tract infections
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (adjunct)
Mechanism of Action
Cefpodoxime Proxetil is an oral third-generation cephalosporin prodrug that is hydrolysed in intestinal mucosa to active cefpodoxime. It binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking. Broad spectrum covering gram-negative (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli, Klebsiella) and selected gram-positive (streptococci, MSSA) organisms — including many beta-lactamase-producing strains. Ofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase, blocking DNA replication.

Adults: 1 tablet twice daily for 5–10 days. Take with food.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild rash, headache. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%). Plus fluoroquinolone class effects: tendinopathy, QT prolongation, peripheral neuropathy, photosensitivity.
