About Metcam-850 SR Tablet
Metcam-850 SR Tablet contains Metformin 850 mg SR in sustained-release formulation. Metformin is the first-line oral antidiabetic agent for type-2 diabetes recommended by ADA, EASD and ICMR guidelines. The SR formulation improves GI tolerability and provides smoother 24-hour glucose control.
Indicated as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetics or insulin for adult type-2 diabetes mellitus. Also used in prediabetes, PCOS and gestational diabetes (some forms).

- Type-2 diabetes mellitus (first-line)

Mechanism of Action
Metformin is a biguanide that activates AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), suppressing hepatic gluconeogenesis (the predominant mechanism), improving peripheral insulin sensitivity and reducing intestinal glucose absorption. Unlike sulphonylureas, metformin does not cause hypoglycaemia and is weight-neutral or modestly weight-reducing.
