Mechanism of Action
Omeprazole irreversibly inhibits gastric H+/K+ ATPase (proton pump) — markedly suppressing both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 20 mg once daily before breakfast for 4–8 weeks.
Side Effects
Headache, diarrhoea, abdominal pain. Long-term: B12 deficiency, hypomagnesaemia, fracture risk.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity, on clopidogrel (CYP2C19 inhibition reduces clopidogrel activation), severe hepatic impairment.
