About Cefiza-50 DT Tablet
Cefiza-50 DT contains Cefixime 50 mg in a paediatric dispersible tablet format. Cefixime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin with broad-spectrum activity against gram-negative bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and Neisseria species. The 50 mg dispersible tablet is ideal for young children — dissolves rapidly in water for accurate weight-based dosing without requiring liquid preparation.
Cefixime is the most widely used third-generation oral cephalosporin in Indian practice for community-acquired infections. Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 8 mg/kg/day — typically 1 tablet (50 mg) twice daily for 5–7 days, weight-adjusted. Disperse in water.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea (relatively common), nausea, abdominal pain, mild skin rash. Less common: hypersensitivity reactions, transient elevation of liver enzymes. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, severe skin reactions, anaphylaxis.
