About Cefob-1.5g Injection
Cefob-1.5g Injection contains Cefuroxime Sodium 1500 mg — the high-strength parenteral cephalosporin used for serious bacterial infections requiring IV antibiotic coverage. It is widely used in hospitals for community-acquired pneumonia, complicated skin/soft-tissue infections, bone and joint infections and as surgical prophylaxis.
Cefuroxime’s second-generation spectrum bridges the gram-positive coverage of first-generation cephalosporins with extended gram-negative activity against H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis and selected Enterobacteriaceae. It is also effective against many penicillinase-producing organisms due to its beta-lactamase stability.
Cefob-1.5g is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP injectable conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise, government tenders and third-party manufacturing — a hospital staple SKU.
Indications
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections
- Bone and joint infections
- Septicaemia and bacteraemia
- Pre- and post-surgical prophylaxis
- Meningitis (in combination with other agents)
Mechanism of Action
Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin that binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking and producing bacterial cell wall destabilisation. Compared with first-generation cephalosporins, cefuroxime has enhanced gram-negative activity (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli) plus retained gram-positive coverage.

Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild skin rash. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions, transient hepatic enzyme elevation. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%). Injection site reactions, pain, phlebitis with IV use.
