About Cefob-500 Tablet
Cefob-500 Tablet contains Cefuroxime Axetil 500 mg — the higher-strength oral cephalosporin used for severe community-acquired infections, step-down therapy from IV cefuroxime, and infections requiring higher tissue concentrations such as Lyme disease and severe respiratory tract infections.
The 500 mg dose achieves greater tissue penetration in lower respiratory tract, bone, skin and CSF (limited but useful in some Lyme disease cases). Twice-daily dosing supports adherence in 7–14 day courses.

Mechanism of Action
Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin that binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking and producing bacterial cell wall destabilisation. Compared with first-generation cephalosporins, cefuroxime has enhanced gram-negative activity (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli) plus retained gram-positive coverage.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 500 mg twice daily for 7–14 days. Lyme disease: 500 mg twice daily for 20 days. Take with food for best absorption.
Side Effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, mild skin rash. Rare: pseudomembranous colitis, anaphylaxis, severe skin reactions, transient hepatic enzyme elevation. Cross-reactivity with penicillin allergy (~5–10%).
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease.
