About Cefob-CV Dry Syrup
Cefob-CV Dry Syrup combines Cefuroxime 125 mg with Clavulanic Acid 31.25 mg per 5 ml in a paediatric dry-syrup format. Mechanism of Action
Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin that binds penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking and producing bacterial cell wall destabilisation. Compared with first-generation cephalosporins, cefuroxime has enhanced gram-negative activity (H. influenzae, M. catarrhalis, E. coli) plus retained gram-positive coverage. Clavulanic acid inhibits bacterial beta-lactamases, restoring cefuroxime activity against beta-lactamase-producing strains.
Dosage & Administration
Children: 25–50 mg/kg/day of cefuroxime in two divided doses for 7–10 days. Reconstitute with supplied water; refrigerate after reconstitution.
Side Effects
GI upset (more common with clavulanate), diarrhoea, mild rash. Other side effects similar to cefuroxime alone.
Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy. Caution in renal impairment (dose adjustment). Caution in GI disease. History of cholestatic jaundice with clavulanate.
