About Ofzac-OZ Tablet (Alu Alu)
Ofzac-OZ Tablet (Alu Alu pack) combines Ofloxacin 200 mg + Ornidazole 500 mg — the standard adult dual-antimicrobial combination for mixed bacterial-protozoal diarrhoea. Alu Alu pack provides superior moisture protection.

Mechanism of Action
Ofloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone — inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV blocking DNA replication. Active against gram-negative aerobes, atypicals (Chlamydia, Mycoplasma), and many gram-positives. Excellent oral bioavailability (~95%). Metronidazole/Tinidazole/Ornidazole are nitroimidazoles activated by anaerobic/protozoal enzymes — form DNA-damaging nitro radicals. Target anaerobes (Bacteroides, Clostridium), protozoa (Giardia, Entamoeba, Trichomonas). Ornidazole has longer half-life (~13 hours) and lower disulfiram interaction than metronidazole.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 1 tablet twice daily x 3–5 days.
Side Effects
GI upset, headache, dizziness, photosensitivity, tendon rupture (rare), QT prolongation, peripheral neuropathy, dysglycaemia.
Contraindications & Precautions
Children below 18, pregnancy, lactation, history of FQ tendinopathy, severe hepatic impairment, prolonged QT.
