About Cefiza Drops
Cefiza Drops contains Cefixime 25 mg/ml in a paediatric drop format. Cefixime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin with broad-spectrum activity against gram-negative bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and Neisseria species. The drop format with calibrated dropper allows accurate weight-based dosing in infants and toddlers.
Cefixime is the most widely used third-generation oral cephalosporin in Indian practice for community-acquired infections. Its once or twice daily dosing, oral bioavailability and broad gram-negative coverage make it valuable for UTI, gonorrhoea, typhoid fever, ENT infections and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Cefiza Drops is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — one of the highest-volume cephalosporin SKUs.
Indications
- Acute pharyngitis and tonsillitis (streptococcal)
- Acute otitis media
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated UTI and cystitis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (single dose)
- Typhoid fever (uncomplicated)
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins.
Dosage & Administration
Infants and children: 8 mg/kg/day in one or two divided doses by calibrated dropper for 5–7 days. As advised by paediatrician.
Side Effects

Contraindications & Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Severe penicillin allergy (cross-reactivity ~10%). Renal impairment requires dose adjustment. History of GI disease (caution).
