About Cefiza-50 Dry Syrup
Cefiza-50 Dry Syrup contains Cefixime 50 mg/5 ml in a infant dry-syrup format. Cefixime is a third-generation oral cephalosporin with broad-spectrum activity against gram-negative bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis and Neisseria species. The 50 mg/5 ml lower strength is ideal for infants and toddlers where smaller weight-based doses are needed — providing accurate dosing without dilution errors.
Cefixime is the most widely used third-generation oral cephalosporin in Indian practice for community-acquired infections. Its once or twice daily dosing, oral bioavailability and broad gram-negative coverage make it valuable for UTI, gonorrhoea, typhoid fever, ENT infections and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Cefiza-50 Dry Syrup is manufactured by Trumac Healthcare under WHO-GMP conditions. Available for monopoly-based PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing — one of the highest-volume cephalosporin SKUs.
Indications
- Acute pharyngitis and tonsillitis (streptococcal)
- Acute otitis media
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Uncomplicated UTI and cystitis
- Uncomplicated gonorrhoea (single dose)
- Typhoid fever (uncomplicated)
Mechanism of Action
Cefixime binds penicillin-binding proteins (PBP-3) on gram-negative bacteria, inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis. The result is bacterial cell wall destabilisation and osmotic lysis. Cefixime is resistant to many beta-lactamases produced by gram-negative organisms — distinguishing it from earlier cephalosporins.
